If you are thinking of buying that grey colored cat breed you spotted. Then you should know what that grey colored cat's breed is. Here are 5 grey or rather blue colored Cat breeds you probably saw.
I am scheduled to write another blog post for Buddy and decided to talk about cats this time. But what cat should i write about?
I had numerous cats when i was growing up. Having a pet lover dad who bred both Siamese and Persian cats plus numerous strays we had gave me enough experience about their behavior. But i don't want to write about cats i know, i wanted to something else .
Then i remembered our neighbor's grey cat who loved to go inside our apartment hypnotizing anyone that goes his way... but then that neighbor already left and so my quest to search for that cat breed begins.
I opened my laptop, searched "Grey Cat breed"...
And now you know why i thought of writing topic...
Because theres a couple of grey colored Cat breeds out there. Here are 5 of them in case you were also searching for that cute irresistible grey cat breed you saw the other day.
"Although the color might look gray, blue is a specialized term used to describe a specific color in some cats (and some dogs, too). In the pet world, blue is the dilute version of black."
Russian Blue
Other names: Russian, Maltese Blue, Norwegian Blue
The Russian Blue is an elegant feline with dark blue coat which appears to be sprinkled by silver. Although the color might look gray, blue is a specialized term used to describe a specific color in some cats (and some dogs, too). In the pet world, blue is the dilute version of black. It only comes in 1 color with eyes that should be as intense green as possible. They have coats that are short and dense as they have a thick undercoat. Like its cousin the Nebelung, the Russian Blue is a quieter cat that loves to cuddle.
They are affectionate with people it's comfortable with but because they are quite timid in nature, they can often be wary of new personalities. This breed is known for its love of playing fetch. Most Russian blues are great family members and get along well with other pets, even dogs, and are good with gentle children. The Russian Blue will be the perfect companion to anyone that will offer their time and a tranquil home.
British Shorthair
Everyone will surely fall for the noble charm of The British Shorthair. Nearly everything on the British Shorthair is round—these cats have a round head, bright round eyes, chubby cheeks, round paws, and a tail with a rounded tip. Their teddybear-like appearance makes them completely irresistible. But don't be fooled with its look, the ancient British Shorthair were brought by the Romans to England to help them protect their food supplies from rodents.
This cat breed comes with a variety of color, but Grey/ Blue is actually the most popular for this breed in the United Kingdom. They are often confused with another cat breed the Chatreux because of their color.
The British Shorthair is extremely affectionate and as such you will regularly benefit from the softness of its fur. They are pleasant companions, as long as they are left with enough distractions, these cats will beat boredom with their curiosity. They will be fine in your absence, but eager to spend time with you when you come back.
Chartreux
The Chartreux is revered as the "National Cat of France". The Chartreux has a bulky, muscular and powerful body. Their large yellow eyes stand out on their rounded face. They only come in Blue/Grey, their famous coat is thick, woolly and waterproof. This cat is a mighty mouser, legend has it that French Carthusian monks relied on these cats for rat control in monasteries.
Owners have described them as having a dog-like personality. This cat breed is highly intelligent, so challenge your Chartreux with learning tricks or solving puzzles for treats. They need to play often in order to maintain their muscular body. Ideally they will have two or three play sessions a day. Their curious nature can make them prone to playing explorers. Be careful. Chatreux are able to tone down their energy and can easily go from playful kitten to peaceful cat sitting nicely on your lap.
Scottish Fold
The unique characteristic of the Scottish Fold is obviously their ears, it folds forward and downward. Scottish fold kittens are not born with folded ears. The ears of the kittens that carry the gene begin folding usually about the 21st day, starting with the outer edge of the ear near the base. It is forbidden to mate Scottish fold breed with another due to the osteo-articular malformations caused by their Folded ear (Fd) gene. It is allowed to do crosses though between Scottish Fold and Scottish Straight (straight ears), British Shorthair and American Shorthair.
Behind their cuddly looks lies hidden mischief and a very curious nature, with an expression that’s always coaxing their favourite person to come and play with them. They have large eyes giving them a remarkable expressiveness with a medium-sized body giving it a round stocky appearance. They are highly affectionate and intelligent that goes with a friendly attitude to complement it.
Nebelung
The Nebelung are both new and rare cat breed. This variety was born during the 80s in the United States and came from Russian Blue origin. Some would consider it as a variety of Russian Blue with silky mid length fur that does not tangle while some considers the Nebelung as a separate cat breed. They come only in their beautiful silver-blue coat which earned them the name "Creature of the mist" in German. Their long hair is luxurious and fluffy with a ruff around their neck and a plumed tail.
Nebelungs loves to spend the day lounging in a cozy place, and enjoys a quiet environment they are used to. Some say that these cats are known for being calm and quiet and they could be shy at times. They do best in calm households with older children, adults or seniors. perfect for owners who has time to spend with them.
Korat
The Korat is an ancient cat breed that has bright green eyes and a blue coat with silver tips. It is still called the "Si-Sawat" which means a "colour of prosperity" in Thai which is believed to give luck and a symbol of wealth, according to popular Thai beliefs. It's name came from Khorat Plateau north-east of Thailand where they were confined.
The Korat is known for being a quiet, calm cat that can be shy with strangers. They need time to adapt to and accept newcomers. They can handle being alone well and appreciates moments of solitude. Being calm in nature, it is a great companion for the elderly with established routine. If you have a dog or a child it is recommended that you get a Korat kitten for them to get used with the noise as they grow older. Provide them hiding places where it can isolate himself when needed.
